New York City always has a pulse, even late at night. On this cloudy evening around the Oculus, the streets felt calm but alive—soft lights glowing, people moving through the space, and the city quietly doing what it always does. There’s something special about shooting at night in NYC; every step feels like a moment waiting to be captured.
I decided to edit these images in black and white to focus on the feeling of the scene rather than the color. Without color, the eye naturally goes to light, contrast, shadows, and emotion. Black and white photographs have a way of making moments feel timeless. They simplify the frame and help tell the story in a stronger, more honest way.
The clouds that night softened the light and deepened the shadows, which worked beautifully for monochrome. The reflections, the movement of people, and the bold lines of the Oculus all came together in a quiet, moody way.
These photos are my take on a softer side of New York—less about the rush, and more about the in-between moments that usually go unnoticed.
