I recently picked up the Yongnuo 14mm f/1.8 wide-angle lens on a great deal, and almost immediately I knew I wanted to challenge myself with it. Wide-angle lenses have a way of changing how you see the world, so I set out with one goal in mind—to explore perspective, angles, and composition in a fresh way.
My walk took me through the streets of Boston, and almost every corner felt like a new creative opportunity. With the 14mm, scenes felt larger, lines felt bolder, and depth became a powerful storytelling tool. Buildings stretched higher, streets felt wider, and ordinary moments suddenly had a dramatic edge to them.
Shooting wide forced me to be more intentional with my composition. Every step forward or backward completely changed the frame. I found myself thinking more about leading lines, foreground interest, and how to place my subjects within the environment rather than isolating them.
The results honestly surprised me—in the best way possible. The images came out dynamic, immersive, and full of character. This little walk around Boston turned into a rewarding creative exercise and reminded me how stepping outside your usual focal length can completely refresh your vision.
Sometimes, all it takes is a new lens and a simple walk to see your surroundings differently.
